MAE: Minority Art Exhibition will take place Thursday, August 20, at Metro Space Gallery, in Downtown Richmond. MAE is a pioneering art exhibition, that will feature contemporary art by African American and Latin American artists, provide practical advice on art procurement, and encourage patrons to investment in fine art. This event will be a key source for art enthusiasts and collectors to find and buy exquisite, museum-quality artwork. Along with presenting exceptional art, MAE will launch an exciting program for individuals, businesses, and institutions to sponsor artists. Through sponsorships, artists can obtain the necessary marketing materials, education, production space, and supplies – allowing them to freely pursue their creative impulses. This exhibition is sure to be a cultural highlight for all.
Organized by Clarke Art, the exhibition includes an exclusive selection of art by cutting-edge newcomers and acclaimed artists. It will feature works by seven local artists including: Ray Oyola, Mauricio Patarroyo, Keith Ramsey, Jason Ford, James E. Clarke III, Inga Maria, and Langston Tupponce. Works include paintings, mix media, and sculpture.
The exhibition illuminates facets of the culture and history of minorities - through artworks that compel the viewer to examine their surroundings with fresh eyes. The art dispels an old notion within the art world that works created by minorities were rudimentary compared to works created by their peers of European decent. This exhibition will display the incomparable skill and content of minority artist’s works that American galleries and auction houses are starting to appreciate.
Many of the artists in the exhibition address political events that have affected their communities. Other artists reveal the strength and struggles of everyday life and their search for spiritual peace.
We are pleased to partner with Freedom House, Urban Views Weekly, and Chef Mamusa Africanne.
